About Serenity

Serenity Research Consulting was founded on a simple idea: research is only valuable if it leads somewhere. That means asking the right questions, choosing the right methods, and translating what you find into decisions you can actually act on.

We work with organizations of all sizes — from startups figuring out their market to established companies navigating product and strategy decisions — across industries including financial services, healthcare, and technology.

About Matt

Matt Newman, PhD, has been doing research for nearly 30 years, working with organizations long enough to know that the most important question is rarely the one they started with.

He started his career in academia, holding faculty positions at Southwestern University, Bard College, and Arizona State University, where he taught social psychology and research methods and published three books and over 25 journal articles. In 2015 he made the move to applied consulting, founding Serenity to bring the same rigor he developed in academic research to real business problems.

That combination — theoretical depth, practical experience, and genuine curiosity about what makes people tick — is what he brings to every engagement, whether it's a 60-minute advisory session or a months-long research project.

Matt holds a BA from Trinity University and an MA + PhD from the University of Texas at Austin. He is currently based in the Netherlands, working with US and European clients.
